Near Delta Jct. the Trans Alaska Pipeline crosses the Tanana River to continue its way

to Valdez. This crossing was also home to McCarty's Station, the Signal Corps telegraph

office that was part of the Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System which

helped establish the Valdez Trail. A boat was used to ferry travelers across the river until a

bridge could be built in the 1940s.
