| The Valdez Glacier looms above the old Valdez townsite in the foreground. After the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake and Tsunami, Valdez was relocated about five miles to the south in a more protected part of of the Bay. From 1898-1900 Valdez Glacier was the only practical route for reaching central Alaska until the Valdez Trail was established. |
