French Beading

French beading originated in the 1500s in France and Italy when peasants found uses for leftover and imperfect beads from beaded clothing made for the royal court. These leftover beads were strung on wire and made into intricate floral arrangements and used in a variety of ceremonies from funerals to weddings. Since then, French beading has become a very popular and cherished art form, respected for its beauty and delicacy.

I can make only a few items at a time since this method of beading takes so many hours and my time is limited. The pictures are samples of what I have made in the past. I specialize in miniature floral arrangements in baskets and other containers which are usually from about 3 to 5 inches tall. Many of these florals depict well loved wild and garden flowers.

I take commission orders on French Beading. Contact me if you are interested in ordering something similar to what is shown at right. Prices range from $25 to $60, depending on size and complexity.

2009 Update

Sorry, I am no longer doing beading due to my schedule.

Please look at my gallery of watercolor originals, prints, and notecards,

which are my primary focus now.
